Island Peak Climbing

Island PeakIsland peak also called as Imja tse in Nepali is most popular and easy access Climbing / Trekking peak in Everest region. Formerly it was known as Imja tse peak among locals; in 1953 the peak was renamed as Island Peak by Eric Shipton as it resemble an island in a sea of ice viewed from Dingboche. Island peak was first summit by same British team as preparation for Everest summit on 1953, which team members Sir Edmond Hillary & Sherpa Tenzing Norgey write the history with golden letters to become the first to reach the top of the world. Island peak climbing allows a rare experience of different shape and looks of great Himalayas which usually not possible by normal trekking. It is also a matter of great satisfaction and proud to be on top of peak. Island peak climbing and Everest Gokyo trekking can be combined in one for grater experience of famous Gokyo Valley, rich Sherpa Culture - Lifestyle and fantastic views of Cho Oyu, Everest and Nuptse. It is also a practice for beginner before attempt to higher elevation. After crossing the Cho La pass, we descend to Dingboche and begin our preparation for Island peak climbing.

Island peak is an extension of Lhotse Shar, and is located between the Lhotse and Imja glaciers, standing at 6,189m/20,305ft giving panoramic views of Himalaya on 360*, valleys and other natural beauties to those who are on top and tempting other from the sayings of summiteers. We ascend through the standard route, although the summit can be reached in one day from base camp, we make use of a high camp. The final ridge is a classic of its kind and from the summit fabulous views can be enjoyed of many Himalayan giants including the immense south face of Lhotse and the huge peak of Ama Dablam.

Being as an easy and non technical climbing peak, everyone who has experience of high altitude trekking with good health condition, physical fitness and hugh willpower could attempt Island peak. Knowledge of using Ice Axe, Crampons and ropes are added advantage, though it is not mandatory.
