If you have only three days and you are staying in Pokhara, the Panchase Trek is the perfect Himalayan introduction. The route begins with a scenic boat ride across Phewa Lake — Pokhara's jewel — crossing to the western shore where the forest starts immediately and the city falls away. From there, two days of easy walking through some of Nepal's most beautiful rhododendron forest lead to Panchase Peak at 2,517m, a hilltop viewpoint that delivers a sweeping 180-degree panorama of the entire Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, and the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) close enough to feel touchable. Panchase is often overlooked in favour of the more famous Poon Hill circuit, but it offers something Poon Hill cannot: genuine solitude, a boat-ride start, and a summit that takes only three days round trip from Pokhara. The forest between Bhumdi and Panchase Peak is among the finest in the Annapurna foothills — ancient rhododendrons with trunks a metre thick draped in moss, alive in spring with thousands of blooms in red, pink, and white. The Gurung villages of Bhumdi and Bhadaure offer warm teahouse hospitality in an environment that has seen little mass tourism. For families with children, first-time trekkers, or travellers adding a short walking adventure to a Pokhara holiday, Panchase is the ideal choice. No altitude risk at 2,517m, no demanding stone staircases, and a boat ride to start — these three qualities make it uniquely accessible without sacrificing the essential Himalayan experience.
