Imagine standing in a natural amphitheatre so vast and so perfectly formed that it feels as though the mountains built it just for you. The Annapurna Base Camp trek delivers exactly that — an 11-day journey from the green lowlands of Pokhara into the frozen heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary at 4,130m, where a 360-degree ring of Himalayan giants towers overhead. The route winds through terraced farmland and charming Gurung villages, climbs the famous stone staircase to Ulleri, and plunges into lush rhododendron forests that erupt in crimson blooms every spring. The Modi Khola gorge narrows dramatically as you ascend, with waterfalls cascading from moss-covered cliffs and bamboo groves sheltering elusive wildlife. The final approach through Machhapuchhre Base Camp reveals the sanctuary in all its glory — Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, and the unclimbed sacred peak of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) surrounding you on every side. This trek is perfect for moderately fit trekkers who want a classic Himalayan experience without the extreme altitude of Thorong La. Autumn delivers the clearest skies, while spring wraps the lower trails in a blanket of wildflowers. A luxury lodge option is available for those seeking added comfort on the trail.

Perfect for moderately fit trekkers seeking a classic Himalayan amphitheatre without extreme altitude. Autumn provides the clearest sanctuary views, spring adds crimson rhododendron blooms along the Modi Khola gorge, and the luxury lodge option suits those wanting comfort alongside adventure.
“I'd never trekked at altitude before and was nervous about the steep trails...”
“Watching sunrise over the Annapurna range from base camp was the most magical moment of my life.”
The Modi Khola gorge turns crimson with rhododendron blooms from late March. Morning views of Machhapuchhre from the sanctuary are reliably clear before afternoon clouds build.
Crystal-clear amphitheatre views with the lowest precipitation of the year. Night temperatures at base camp drop to -5°C but days are sunny and dry — perfect for the 360° panorama.
Manageable for moderately fit trekkers who exercise regularly. The steep stone steps through the Modi Khola gorge are the most demanding sections. If you can comfortably hike 6 hours with a daypack, you're ready for ABC.
