Your driver picks you up from your Kathmandu hotel at 5:30 AM and transfers you to the domestic terminal at Tribhuvan International Airport. Check in at the mountain flight counter, receive your boarding pass with a guaranteed window seat (seats alternate left and right so every passenger gets an equal view), and board the twin-engine turboprop aircraft by 6:30 AM. The plane takes off eastward and climbs quickly above the Kathmandu Valley. Within 15 minutes the Himalayan wall appears on the left side of the aircraft -- an unbroken line of snow and ice stretching to the horizon.
